Experimental Blocks (RexDraw Version 2.50.5.8614)

What is the experimental blocks about, and this has a password. I see nothing in documentation about this nor do I see anything in the Forums.

Is this a experimental feature that can be tested by users?
Does this have anything to do with RexVision_H.dll RexVision_T.dll?
I heard about a future of vision with REX, is this in beta yet?

Sorry for the multi questions, just trying to find the answers, I have been searching and going over the documents for a week now. Maybe I have missed something somewhere.

Thanks,

Re: Experimental Blocks (RexDraw Version 2.50.5.8614)

Hi gizmo,

thank you for your interest in REX Control System special features. Experimental function blocks are not meant for general public and therefore they are password-protected and hidden by default. These blocks rarely have documentation, they haven't gone through full testing procedures yet, no future compatibility and availability is guaranteed etc. We provide access to these blocks only to special customers who understand the risks but still want to get access to the newest features.

What functionality are you missing in REX? I will be happy to hear about your expectations and needs. If there's some overlap with the current experimental features, we'll get in touch and grant you access.

Cheers, Tomas

Re: Experimental Blocks (RexDraw Version 2.50.5.8614)

Tomas,

Thanks for clearing this up.

The main feature I am looking for is Vision blocks, especially for the Raspberry Pi built in camera port, motion tracking, or object detection would be awesome, but being able to simply port camera feed into block and pass it to the HMI would be nice. Part of my project in the future would or could use this function.

Another feature that I would be interested in would be sound spectrum monitoring. Lets just say for instance I wanted to detect glass break, or an anomaly of a bearing starting to get a squalling sound from lack of lube or over temperature case.

Frequency monitoring using USB SDR could be useful, or the ability to analyze Wi-Fi / Bluetooth.

Most of this would be useful for my personal projects, but all of the above mentioned would justify using REX Controls integrated into my current work industry. I will be purchasing a vision system to trial very soon for a quality control scenario. I am also thinking of a redundancy system to add to a vibration monitor for a sub-zero application using sound to analyze for failing bearings.

Thanks,

Re: Experimental Blocks (RexDraw Version 2.50.5.8614)

Dear gizmo,
very nice ideas. There is no native support for computer vision using the RPi camera yet. Still, you can use e.g. OpenCV on the Raspberry Pi and integrate it with the REX algorithm using either the EPC block or REST API interface.

I believe your questions have been already discussed in this forum thread.

The same holds for sound processing - you can run it in parallel.

Best regards,
Jaroslav
